Another major theme of the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, also known as CES 2024, will be sustainability. As the world faces unprecedented challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and pollution, the tech industry has a responsibility and an opportunity to address these issues and contribute to a more sustainable future.
At CES 2024, attendees will be able to see how tech companies are implementing sustainability practices and developing solutions that can reduce environmental impact, improve social welfare, and enhance economic value.
Some of the examples of sustainability initiatives and innovations that will be showcased at CES 2024 are:
- Renewable energy: Tech companies are investing in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydro to power their operations and products and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For example, Apple is committed to achieving 100% renewable energy for its global facilities and supply chain by 2030.
- Circular economy: Tech companies are adopting circular economy principles such as reuse, recycle, and repair to extend the lifespan and value of their products and materials and minimize waste generation. For example, Dell Technologies has set a goal of recycling one billion pounds of e-waste by 2030 and using recycled or renewable materials in 50% of its products by 2030.
- Smart cities: Tech companies are collaborating with governments and communities to create smart cities that can leverage data and technology to improve urban planning, management, and livability. For example, Alphabet’s Sidewalk Labs is developing a smart city project in Toronto that aims to create a mixed-use, sustainable, and innovative urban district.
- Digital health: Tech companies are developing digital health solutions that can improve the health and well-being of people and populations, especially in underserved or remote areas. For example, Microsoft’s AI for Health initiative is supporting projects that use AI to advance health research, access, and care.
